Hi, welcome to my blog, I am a writer of short stories, children's and YA novels . An acceptance from People's Friend finally made me a published writer! Yeah, happy days! I have since had stories published in The Weekly News and The Last Laugh anthology. My main love is writing children's/YA novels...I'm now enduring a fruitless search for an agent... I also draw and paint, I like to draw animals (usually my adorable crazy cats!)Occasionally famous people and motorcycles.

A lovely award

Thank you so much to Rachna for the lovely L'Aussie Fair Dinkum award, I'm so pleased! Rachna has a lovely warm blog, educational too, if you haven't met her yet, I recommend a visit!

Thanks for all your suggestions for 'writing' books, Stephen King seems very popular and sounds like an interesting read.

I was just wondering if anyone is entering the Amazon Breakthrough Novel award contest?
I've just been having a look, but the young adult section is for novels over 50,000 words and I'm not quite there yet and don't suppose I will be by early Feb when the comp closes.
I'm always looking out for places to sub to and then when I find one I get all nervous and daunted by the whole thing. I'm such a wimp :)

    I'm not entering this year but I know of a few bloggers that are. I hope you have success if you decide to. Congrats on the award.

    Be bold!!! Be brave!!! But it's so easier said than done!! Me - I tend to just enter and then run away and not tell anyone so if it all goes pear shaped only I (and the people who turned me down and gave me and F+++) know - LOL!!!!!. But I say - you never ever ever know how they'll all turn out - so yes penandpaints I'm back to my "be bold!!! be brave!!" LOL!

    Hang on to your novel - hopefully the ABNA will run again next year and then you'd be ready!!! GOOD LUCK!!! Take care

    I think I may fit into the wimp category. I seem never to find out about things until I can't possibly be ready in time. Perhaps it's Fate saying I'm not ready yet?

    I understand the feelings of nervousness, but I think that disappears soon after you've sent the work off. Once it's out of your hands, you can forget about it and start something new. And you'll feel a glow of satisfaction that you managed to take that brave step and let it go. Sometimes I won't let myself start a new story until I have sent off the ones that are hanging around and that I have agonised about. I just check them one more time and make myself send them. I always feel a sense of relief afterwards.

    I entered a few years ago, but I didn't tell anyone for fear of it all going pear-shaped! Good luck if you do decide to enter.
