About Me

My photo
Hi, welcome to my blog, I am a writer of short stories, children's and YA novels . An acceptance from People's Friend finally made me a published writer! Yeah, happy days! I have since had stories published in The Weekly News and The Last Laugh anthology. My main love is writing children's/YA novels...I'm now enduring a fruitless search for an agent... I also draw and paint, I like to draw animals (usually my adorable crazy cats!)Occasionally famous people and motorcycles.

submission fears

I have spent the best part of the week writing, then tweaking, then tweaking some more an email query to an agent. This query contains a brief synopsis and the first five pages of the novel as their guidelines advise.
I have now got to the point where I'm thinking 'Yes, this is it, going off my query letter, this sounds like a great book. How could Ms. Wonderful Agent refuse?'
But, what if the agent doesn't think so. This will be about the fifth attempt with this novel, 2nd time to an agent, although it has been rewritten extensively and is much better(I hope). But, I'm suddenly really nervous about pressing 'send'.
So, my email is still in 'drafts' and will remain there until I find some courage from somewhere. I just keep thinking if it's turned down again, I'll run out of places to send it and I don't want that to happen. Boo, Boo hoo hoo. :(

In case you're wondering, this is a chocolate fondant sponge, which is going to cheer me up when I eat one...in a minute.

  1. Oh dear!! In my younger days, I'd be yelling "QUICK PRESS THAT SEND BUTTOON NOW, NOW, NOW, DO IT, DO IT, DO IT!"

But now that I'm old and none the wiser, I say only you know in your heart when to press that send button. I'd still say press send but I won;t be saying it so loudly or so bossily! LOL!

And I may know nowt but I do know this. You will never run out of places to send your novel too! I strongly urge you to read India Drummond's interview on Talli Rolland blog - especially on the journey she took to be published.

Be fearless Pen and Paints! Go for it!! And Good luck!

    p.s. lovely cake - yum,yum!
    Take care

  4. Hi Old Kitty
You made me laugh, haha no, I've not pressed the send bottoon yet, I'm still wailing and feeling a bit pathetic.
But thanks for the wise words, I will go check out the interview you were telling me about.
Hope your hayfever isn't too bad ;)

Suzanne, Hi thanks, I already have and now feel fat, but I don't care!

  5. I know exactly how you feel. I'm trying to get the nerve to do the same thing. It's hard to put yourself out there only to be let down over and over. I wish us both luck and courage!

  6. I think you have done so well to get this far with it. You deserve to give yourself this opportunity after all the hard toil you've invested. However, it makes you feel so vulnerable when you put your head up over the edge of the trench. I'm sure you'll know when the right moment to send it has arrived. Wishing you lots of luck.

  8. It's so hard to know the right time to send. Although in my experience it's better to give it a week or so, read it again, if you're happy then press send. But then what do I know? HA!

    Good luck! x

  9. I'm a terrible dittherer when it comes to sending in work and I often fret over whether it should be this word or that word, when in reality I suppose an editor isn't go to turn down a short story or novel because of something so small.

Really hope your email (and novel) piques the agent's interest. Keeping my fingers crossed for you.
