About Me

My photo
Hi, welcome to my blog, I am a writer of short stories, children's and YA novels . An acceptance from People's Friend finally made me a published writer! Yeah, happy days! I have since had stories published in The Weekly News and The Last Laugh anthology. My main love is writing children's/YA novels...I'm now enduring a fruitless search for an agent... I also draw and paint, I like to draw animals (usually my adorable crazy cats!)Occasionally famous people and motorcycles.

In my notebook ...

...There are lots of little phrases about cats and kittens.
The front cover is a kitten and the words, 'to own a cat is to join a worldwide community of devoted slaves.' Quite so.

Sometimes I think 'I should really tell that cat who's boss!' The cat then looks at me with that knowing stare. Hmm.

Another phrase is 'you can choose, a cat, or furniture.'
My furniture is looking very very sorry for itself.

Anyway, I love my little notebook and every page is full of titles of stories I've written and where I have sent them or intend to send them.
I was flipping through it yesterday to see how many stories are awaiting responses and found that I only have five out and about! Aggh. No wonder it's all gone very quiet.
At least a rejection in the post is proof that I made an effort.
I need to get some more posted out, I need more rejections!

On a positive note, I got my copy of 'Someone has to Die, Volume 4' from Spikethecat with my story in, which is very exciting! I have put it on my shelf so I can see it when I'm feeling deflated.

Sorry about the lack of posts! I blame the school holidays. I don't know why, I just do.

  1. Well done on your latest anthology publication.

Another cat quote I always remember is 'dogs have owners, cats have staff'. Mind you, I don't think that applies to our dog, he definitely sees us as staff!

  2. Love the cat quotes and well done on the story! I think we all go through periods of suddenly realising how little we've produced - I can't blame the school holidays but I don't like summer as it makes me lethargic.

  3. Awwwww lovely Penandpaints!! I love your notebook of wonderful and very true cat quotes!!! There's nothing like a kitty quote to get you going! LOL!

Yay for your story all published in Spike the Cat!! Of course this is the start of many many many more of your stories to be accepted!! Take care

  4. Hi pen and paints. Well done on the anthology story. Here's another cat quote.
'You don't choose your cat, your cat chooses you.'

  5. Fantastic cat quotes -- and congrats on the anthology! :)

  6. Congratulations, penandpaints. I have a copy of the anthology and can't wait to read your story.

I tried to tell our cat what to do - once. She's half Scottish wildcat and I didn't stand a chance.

  7. It sounds like you have been very productive so don't be too harsh on yourself! Having five things out there is fantastic. I have two things out in the wide blue yonder - both short story comp entries, and both do not announce which story has done what until after October! Patience is a virtue... an' all that... *bites fingers*

  8. Joanne - That's a good one, definately applies to Millie!

Rosemary, Thank you, and it's good to know I'm not the only one having a sleepy summer,

    Old Kitty, Aw, Thank you!!

    Hi Susan, Thank you!

    Talli, Thank you :)

Suzanne, Really, you have a copy? Gosh I have an anxious wait to hear your verdict! ;)

Jayne, Thank you, I feel better already, best of luck for your competitions!

  9. Congratulations on the anthology :-)
I've tagged you over at my place, but no pressure, only if you want it :-)
(Word verification is Mouseity which seems apt!)

  10. Read your story and loved it. Well done. XX

Just stopping by to look around from Teresa Ashby's Blog.....A Likely Story.
