About Me

My photo
Hi, welcome to my blog, I am a writer of short stories, children's and YA novels . An acceptance from People's Friend finally made me a published writer! Yeah, happy days! I have since had stories published in The Weekly News and The Last Laugh anthology. My main love is writing children's/YA novels...I'm now enduring a fruitless search for an agent... I also draw and paint, I like to draw animals (usually my adorable crazy cats!)Occasionally famous people and motorcycles.

writing frenzy

Being a bit rubbish with my posts and keeping up with everyone's news. Sorry!
The reason being (well partly) I had one of those really good dreams on Mon night, you know, when you wake up thinking - Wow, that was good. Must write that down. Quick.
You'd think finding a pen and paper in the home of a person claiming to be a writer would be a doddle. Apparently not. Dispensed with idea of jotting down and headed straight for the laptop. When I say 'straight for' it was actually about an hour later after the morning rush, everyone was chatting on to me as usual, but my head was elsewhere. Didn't want to forget the main features of the dream story.
Anyway, when I was reunited with the laptop, I wrote 20 pages. Phew! I have since been trying to do a proper plan and sort out the plot, stage by stage. I think I have the whole story, except (this is a YA novel) the main character is in love with a ghost ( as happens a lot these days) and I'm trying to think of a satisfactory ending that isn't too morbid, (Can't spend the rest of your life(or death) with a ghost-boy, unless you're a ghost-girl)or the same as other supernatural tales.
So, that's where I've been all week. I'm still there, I've managed to so some Christmas shopping today, I don't know how as I'm in a complete daze, I must be on auto pilot. Still managed to eat into next week's food budget by getting carried away buying gifts in Primark.
Oops.
Still, I haven't felt this excited about a story for a long while, so I'm happy! Beans on toast for tea all next week though, hehe.

  1. Beans on toast is good for you!! Fibre and protein and at least two of your 5 fruit and veg of the day!! I count the tomato sauce as veg! :-)

Aww wow!!! What a lovely story - girl in love with ghost boy - how will it all end?!?!?! Excellent stuff!! Good luck with this - was this your dream??!?! Now why can't I dream stuff like this instead of nightmare scenarios like being unable to shut down for work cos the boss decide we are now a 24/7 operation! LOL!

    Take care

  2. Well done to act quickly on your dream and to be so productive as a result. This kind of activity is one of the joys of being a writer - creativity pouring out from a unique experience. The story sounds fantastic. I can identify with the feeling of being in a daze. It can take over your life and feels really exciting, so you've done well to fit in your Christmas shopping too!

  3. It's lovely when you get that feeling of excitement over a story. The enthusiasm just carries you along for a while, and the writing flows so much more easily.

Beans on toast is one of my favourites - cheap and healthy too!

  4. Good luck with finding an ending to your story! It will suddenly come to you when you least expect it, I'm sure - probably when you can't find a pen :-) x

  5. Hang on to that feeling. You can't beat it when it happens. Good for you to have acted so quickly.

One night last week I dreamt of a man who was called Faulkner Brown,(where did that odd name come from?) who hesitated on a street corner and was in a quandry about something, then he vanished.... What happened to Faulkner Brown? Haven't a clue. I'm waiting for him to put in another appearance.....

Would beans on toast for dinner and tea be 4 of my 5 a day? hehe I'm glad you like the story so far! I'd love to have great dreams all the time, but they're quite rare, poor you with your nightmare dream!

    Joanna,
Thank you! As for being in a daze, the story is just an excuse, I'm always in a daze!

    Joanne
Thank you! I'm getting lots of approval for the beans on toast!

    Amanda
I hope you're right! I should really have a pen permanently attached to my person.

    Christine,
Ah, waiting for the dream sequel? I sometimes fall asleep thinking of a previous good dream in the hope that I may get a continuation, but sadly no. I hope you find out what Faulkner was up to, what a great name!

Talli, Another beans on toast fan, yay! :)

  8. I love dreams like that - when a snippet of a story flashes in and it intrigues you enough to run after it during awake hours, waving a notebook. It sounds great! And beans on toast is yummy - you can always jazz it up a bit with worcester sauce!

  9. That sounds like a fantastic story. And I'm so impressed you remembered it - I often have dreams that I think at the time would be great stories, only to find I lose them as soon as I wake up enough to write them down.

    Love beans on toast.
